golf ball tower challenge
In this challenge we had to construct a structure out of manila folders and 20 inches of masking tape. The project was very hard to keep straight and strong to hold the golf ball on top for 30 seconds.
PROBLEM: Design a structure of maximum height capable of supporting a golf ball without falling over. H^2/B will be used to find the winner.
MATERIALS:
1.) 1 manila folders
2.) 20" of masking tape
3.) 2 rubber bands
RESTRICTIONS:
1.) Must stand by itself
2.) The height will be measured from the base to the top of the structure designed.
3.) The golf ball will be place on the structure and will have to stay there for 30 seconds.
DESCRIPTION:
Overall, this project was very challenging. It was time consuming to get the tower squared up so it wouldn't fall over once it got taller. My tower was a triangle base to use the least amount of material and would be strong. The tower was connected with masking tape at the top of each end of the folder and was getting slightly smaller at the top. The tower was hard to keep straight and hard to prevent outside events from making it fall over. My tower held the golf ball and did decent in the class.
